Obtaining the Spell | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Minimum Blue Mage Level Needed To Acquire Spell: Level 44
Cold Wave is best hunted
in Pso'Xja.
This spell can be soloed starting in the upper 40's. No party is needed for the Pso'Xja camp. Sneak and Invisibility spells to reach camp. Stun spell equipped.
Proceed to the PsošXja tower located at F-7 in Beaucedine Glacier. Note that there is sight, sound and magical aggro on the way there. Take proper precautions. Once in the F-7 tower there are 2 Snowballs that you can farm the spell from. They are indicated by the red dots on the map above at H-8. None of the mobs on the way to the Snowballs will aggro, so you can walk past them safely. The Snowballs WILL aggro on sight and magic, so take care when you get close to them.
Due to level caps, and difficulty in reaching them, the Pso'Xja snolls are not recommended. The Snow Tzar is a CoP boss and you must be on chapter 5-3 to fight him. He does use the spell, but this would be a strange choice for farming Cold Wave in my opinion. The Snoll in Uleguerand Range are killable at high risk with a high level helper. The risk is Hypothermal Combustion, which can kill a high level helper friend easily. A Beastmaster, or Summoner, can easily and safely kill the level 60-63 Snoll named versions. There are several floating about in the areas indicated on the map above.

Special notes about the spell a Blue Mage may like to know
Can I solo it? Yes. With proper care you should have no problems by your upper 40's in camp #1
Do I need any special items? Yes, a way to sneak and invisible yourself is needed to get to camp. Setting a stun spell is mandatory, to prevent Hypothermal Combustion, as an exploding Snowball can kill you easily. A warp item to save a long walk home is nice also.
Do Snoll like to use the move? Yes. They seem to use it often.
The Spell's Frost averages 18 damage per tick. The added AGI down effect starts very high, around -35 AGI, and then decays over time.
Cold Wave can be used to create the Auto Refresh Trait. It counts as one point of the eight needed. |
