Minimum Blue Mage Level Needed To Acquire Spell: Level 50
Feather Barrier
is best hunted in Misareaux Coast.
This spell can be soloed at level 52 and above with small trouble at camp #1, you can easily get it solo before you can cast it at 56. If you want it at 50 or with little trouble a single High level DD helper will do the job. You must be on or past CoP mission 2-1 to enter the Misareaux Coast. Eye Drops can help for blindness. You may need sneak and invisible spells or items to reach camp. Due to the change in the number of Blue Magic Skill points that takes effect at level 50, it seems that for some reason learning this spell at 50 is amazingly difficult. It is best to wait to level 51 to get it.
Proceed to G-6 in Misareaux Coast. Your camp is in the narrow Canyon that opens up to the area circled in red on the map above. There are close to a dozen Diatryma in pull zone. There is sound and sight aggro on the way to camp. Be careful. During the day nothing will aggro in the pull zone. At night Fomor will aggro if you have hate. The Diatryma WILL link, so take care with your pulls. If you are going solo, simply pull, and use the stun and damage school of solo work. You should have few problems if you are three or more levels higher then the target. So by 54 or so you'll have no trouble at all here. At 52 you'll need to take care and fight carefully. If you have a Helper then the fights are simple. Let your DD friend tank, heal them if they need it, and wait for your learn.
If you do not have CoP access to the Coast you can hunt Giant Birds in the Eastern Altepa Desert. The spawns here are a bit odd. A Bird will spawn in one of the two locations in each of the camps A, B, and C. The Giant Bird will always be in each of the camps in one half or the other. There is sight and sound aggro on the way to, and in a few of these camps. Take care. The fights here are exactly like the ones for Camp #1, use the instructions there for details. Respawns here take a good bit, and with the spawn locations so spread out, it's not the best camp.
You can hunt Giant Birds in Riverne Site #B01. There are many Lesser Roc on the first two islands to hunt. There is aggro from Wyverns and Hippogryphs here, take care. You will need to be on or past CoP mission 4-2 to have access to the B01 site. Be sure to bring level 50 cap weapons and armor! It is a level capped zone. To kill these Giant Birds you will need a Duo or Trio at least to take them safely. A full party will have no problems. The fights are nothing special, just like regular exp ones. You can solo the Lesser Rocs here, but it is a risk.
There are higher level Giant Birds that can be fought for the spell, but as you will need help to beat them, and the locations are full of aggro, they are not recommended.

Special notes about the spell a Blue Mage may like to know
Can I solo it? Yes. By your Mid 50's you will have no issues in camp #1
Do I need any special items? Yes, Eye Drops can help. You also must be at or past the correct CoP missions to hunt in the best camp. Bring sneak and invisible items if needed. As Riverne Site #B01 is capped at 50, be sure to have armor and spells that are under the cap, if you choose to use that camp. A warp item to save a long unsafe walk home is nice also.
Due to the change in the number of Blue Magic Skill Points gained with each level, that happens at starting at level 50, the number of levels ahead that one can learn a spell changes from ten to six. With respect to this specific spell, there seems to be an odd effect at play that makes it very difficult to learn at level 50. This may be due to the change in the skill points. It is advised to wait to level 51 to try and learn.
Do Giant Birds like to use the move? Yes, it seems to show up in almost every fight.
The Spell only lasts for 30 seconds. With No Stat bonus, No trait combos that use it, and the crummy duration, this is perhaps one of the most useless spells Blue Mages get.
Feather Barrier can be paired with Regurgitation to create the Resist Gravity Trait. |
