Obtaining the Spell
Minimum Blue Mage Level Needed To Acquire Spell: Level 40
Frightful Roar is best hunted in Uleguerand Range.

This spell can be soloed at level 75 at camp #1. It can be Soloed at 50 in Camp #2. A Duo or small Party will make things much simpler at 50. A DD with shadows, and the Blue Mage to cure can easily Duo the Range Taurus.

Bring Antidotes for Poison. Yagudo Drinks for MP, and you will need sneak and invisible spells or items to reach camp. A Ninja Subjob if you plan to solo in Camp #2.

Taurus Hunting Grounds Camp #1
Name Level Location
Brontotaur 68-71 Uleguerand Range

Proceed to J-10 in Uleguerand Range. Your camp is in the narrow Canyon that opens up to the area circled in red on the map above. There are several Brontotaur to pull in the area.. There is sound. magic and sight aggro on the way to camp. Be careful. There are also Raptors in the pull area that will aggro. Take care.

This camp is one where the Blue Mage is there to simply cure the DD Tank that is killing the Brontotaur. A level 75 with Ninja as a Sub-job will have no problems tanking the Brontotaur, as long as the Blue Mage can provide Cure support. As the Blue Mage is so far below the Brontotaur level odds of landing most spells is very low.

Avoiding Mortal Ray is not hard at all. There is a very long period between the time you see the "Brontotaur readies Mortal Ray" message and when it casts. The DD should fight unlocked, and as soon as the message appears simply turn around. As the spell is a Gaze attack it will then fail. There is more then enough time to turn, but the DD MUST keep an eye on the chat log as to not miss the message.

A Duo works fine, and the safety factor of course goes up for each additional person you can have join you.

Taurus Hunting Grounds Camp #2
Name Level Location
Stegotaur 47-49 Sacrarium

You need to be on or past CoP mission 4-3 to hunt here. The Sacrarium has a level cap of 50. Be sure to have proper armor and spells set for the cap.

There are Three Stegotaur in the first part of the Sacrarium. One Taurus (Spawn A Above) is guaranteed to pop in the alcove at G-6. The Second (Spawn B) switches on and off from the G-7 to H-7 hallway area and the hall just south of it running from F-8 to G-8. To reach the 3rd spawn (Spawn C) which switches based on day, between the dead ends at J-7 and J-10, you will need to walk through the maze. It's walls change based upon the day of the week. Use the key at the bottom of the map to plan your path. There is sight and sound aggro on the way. WARNING! if Dark weather is up, a NM Corse walks the Maze. He is very very nasty. Avoid him.

You can solo the Stegotaur here with the proper items. You will need to have Ninja as a Subjob for Shadows. Be sure to have Antidotes for the poison move, and Yagudo drinks are a must to keep your MP up for the fights. With care you can kill the Taurus here using basic solo fighting methods. Head Butt to buy time to recast shadows, use your hard hitting DD spellls to eat the monsters life bar. Avoid Mortal Ray as described in Camp #1.

With a level cap of 50, a small party can easily kill the Stegotaur here. A Trio works well, and having more folks to help does not hurt. You'll need a solid Tank, and healing support.

Beastmasters can use local pets to kill the Taurus here, but the fights can be difficult. Mortal Ray can be avoided as noted in Camp#1's notes.

Respawns here take a 14 minutes, and with only the three spawns, and level cap, it's not the best camp.

Taurus Hunting Grounds Camp #3
Name Level Location
Teratotaur 57-59 Sacrarium
Tyrannotaur 72-75 Uleguerand Range
Molech 78-81 Uleguerand Range

There are higher level Taurus in both the Sacrarium and the Range. All are difficult to kill due to the Sacrariums level cap of 50, or just being 70+ level mobs. These are not recommended.

Special notes about the spell a Blue Mage may like to know
Can I solo it? Yes. In Camp #2 with the right items you can. You will need at least a Duo in camp #1
Do I need any special items? Yes, Antidotes for Poison. You also must be at or past the correct CoP missions to hunt in Camp#2. Bring sneak and invisible items if needed. As the Sacrarium is capped at 50, be sure to have armor and spells that are under the cap, if you choose to use that camp. Yagudo Drinks are important in Camp #2. A warp item to save a long unsafe walk home is nice also.
Can I learn this spell in the Phomiuna Aqueducts? While it SHOULD be possible based on known Blue Magic skill levels, and learn distance, no proof of a learn here has been presented by anyone. Currently it seems to be not possible.
Do Taurus like to use the move? Yes, it seems to show up in every fight.
The Spell's Defense down seems to be around 10%.
Frightful Roar can be used to create the Auto Refresh Trait. It counts as two points of the eight needed.
