Special Notes on Monster and it's TP Moves
The Self-Destruct move that clusters use destroys only one of the three bombs in the cluster if HP is over 20%, if below 20%, there is a chance that all bombs remaining will Self-Destruct. Clusters will not use this attack if above 50% HP. Blue Mages cannot Learn Self Destruct From Clusters. The Gravity effect from Circle of Flames lasts for a good bit. Some Blue Mages feel that casting a slow spell, such as Sprout Smack, or Filamented Hold upon a Cluster will cause it to use Refueling more often to overwrite the slow. This is not confirmed, but would not be abnormal for the AI that casting mobs use in the game. |

Minimum Blue Mage Level Needed To Acquire Spell: Level 38
Refueling
is best hunted on Mount Zhayolm.
A Party is needed for this spell at the best camp, #1, it is not soloable there. A Duo, with a Blink Tank DD, or a Beastmaster works well. Full parties are needed at the Riverne camps. Solo is possible in the Meadows and Coast. You must be on or past CoP mission 2-1 for Meadow and Coast access, 2-5 to enter Riverne Site #A01, and 4-2 to enter Riverne Site #B01. A01 is level capped at 40 and B01 at 50. Make sure to bring proper gear, and equip spells that are correct for the caps if you choose to hunt in those zones. Sneak and invisible potions or spells are needed to reach camp.
As soon as you leave the Havlung Staging Point you are in the camp. There are several clusters scattered all the way from the Staging points exit, and the Gates of Havlung. The Clusters aggro to sight and magic, and at night Ghosts pop and aggro to sound and low HP. This is the best camp simply because the Clusters are always here, and here in good numbers. There is no level cap to make things harder, and access is simple. Your Level 75 Damage Dealer friend should be able to solo the clusters here with your support as a healer. It is suggested that they have Ninja as a sub-job for the protection of shadows. Remember that Clusters aggro Magic, so cast from a safe place when you toss a cure. A Beastmaster can charm the local Flys, or get a Clot from the near tunnels, or a Crawler from the next area to kill the Clusters with. Any pet can kill a Cluster here with some mele assist from the Beastmaster. The Blue Mage should not mele the Cluster. Stick to a 100% Curing role.
You will need to be on or past CoP mission 2-1 for access to this camp. When the weather is foggy between 02:00 and 08:00 there are three spawn points in Lufaise Meadows for Clusters, and two for Atomic Clusters. Exact positions are not reported, they are said to spawn in the paths between the large open areas. If you can confirm a loaction drop us a line! You can ask the weather checker if it's going to be foggy. But you can also tell when it is going to be foggy before it actually rolls out onto the land. If you stand in the Safehold, at the bottom of H-6 on the map facing north, the fog will actually roll into the Safehold before doing so outside. The air will start to look a little hazy, and you can tell as early as 2:00. Once this happens run out to try and catch a cluster spawn. A Blue Mage in their low 40's Can solo the Clusters here without much trouble. Use the Weather checker in the Safehold and if fog is due, head out and hopefully catch some clusters. There is aggro from Buggards, Giants, and Orcs. Take proper steps to avoid it. If you catch a Cluster, pull it to a safe location, and proceed to solo it by the normal Head Butt/Bludgeon method. Add cures, and enfeebles, as needed. The Self-Destruct moves can hurt, but they are not life enders as they are at best 1/3 of the clusters HP. Still try to stun them. The Atomic Clusters are a bit stronger, and you'll want to be around level 50 before you mix it up with them. If you are able to time things well, you should be able to catch two spawns before the spawn period ends.
You will need to be on or past CoP mission 2-1 for access to this camp. When the weather is foggy between 02:00 and 08:00 there are five spawn points in The Misareaux Coast for Atomic Clusters. Exact positions for all are not reported, There are spawn points at I-6, J-7, and G-8. A Blue Mage around level 50 can solo the Atomic Clusters here without much trouble. Use the Weather checker in the Safehold and if fog is due, head out and hopefully catch some clusters. There is aggro from Buggards, Giants, and Orcs. Take proper steps to avoid it. Handle your fights as advised in Camp#2.
You will need to be on or past CoP mission 2-5 for access to this camp. This area is level capped at 40. In Riverne Site A01, Clusters are up all the time! You will need to farm a Wyvern Scale to get to the Camp at F-10. There is Sight Aggro on the way to camp from Wyverns, and Hippogryphs which have True sight. Take care on the walk to Atomic Cluster Island. The Island at F-10 is swarming with Clusters. Find a safe camp, and pull clusters to it and fight them like an exp Mob. As you are capped at 40 here, you will need a full party to handle these monsters.
You will need to be on or past CoP mission 4-2 for access to this camp. This area is level capped at 50. You can hike to the Camp in the I-9 area. There is Sight Aggro on the way to camp from Wyverns, and Hippogryphs which have True sight. Take care. The camp area has several Clusters, with one or two in the Tunnel in the SE part of I-9 that leads to the ??? for popping the Unstable Cluster NM. Find a safe camp, and pull clusters to it and fight them like an exp Mob. As you are capped at 50 here, you will need a full party to handle these monsters. The Unstable Cluster NM itself is a good way to learn the spell. It is spawned by trading a Clustered Tar to the ??? in the back of the cave at J-9. As it drops the very nice Soboro Sukehiro Katana, you can often find groups planning to kill it. For offering to help, you may get your spell. A balanced party can kill the NM with little trouble.
Refueling can be learned in a Troll Mercenaries Besieged. You, a party, or alliance member must get the killing blow on the Cluster for a chance to learn the spell. You do not need to have had engaged the monster yourself to learn the spell.

Special notes about the spell a Blue Mage may like to know
Can I solo it? Yes, in your 40's you can in camp #2 or #3. You will need a level 75 helper for camp #1, the best location.
Do I need any special items? Yes. You also must be at or past the correct CoP missions to hunt in many of the camps. If you are lower then level 50 there are aggro possibilities on the way to the Riverne. Bring sneak and invisible items if needed. As the Rivernes are capped at 40 and 50, be sure to have armor and spells that are under the cap. A warp item to save a long unsafe walk home is nice also.
Do Clusters like to use the move? They seem to use it as often as any of the others.
The Spell's Haste is 10% and lasts for five minutes. |
